The Randolph Caldecott Medal, named in honor of Randolph J. Caldecott, a 19th-century English illustrator, is awarded to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children published during the previous year. The medal and honor awards are presented every January by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association.
