The Korean collection at the University of Pittsburgh is comparatively new, but growing vigorously in recent years, especially with supplemental acquisition budget support from the Asian Studies Center. As of June 2008, the collection ranks the 19th among all Korean collections in North America, with a holding of around 11,000 volumes of Korean monographs, 28 titles of current Korean periodicals, more than 70 CD-ROMs, and more than 400 media resources. The collection is strong in core reference materials of Korean studies, Korean economics and politics, history, literature, language, religion, etc.
In addition, the Korean document delivery service provides PITT-affiliated users with Korean academic publications not held by or available from libraries in the United States. Please visit the East Asian Gateway Service for more details.
Recently, in support of faculty's study on North Korean politics and economics, a special effort has been made to acquire North Korean publications through various channels, espcially the gift and exchange program with Yanbian University in Yanji City, China. So far 48 titles and 750 issues of North Korean periodicals have been added to the collection. More books and videos will be added to the collection soon.
